This?gold book chain from the Victorian era (ca1880) is quite an outstanding piece! English in origin, it is hand crafted in vibrant 15ct yellow gold and has a wonderful Etruscan wirework motif applied to the surface. The design is comprised of interlocking panel links, each connected with smooth gold rings at the top and bottom. The Etruscan wirework and beadwork pattern gives wonderful depth and texture to the design, while the reverse side of the piece is left smooth. A removable gold spring ring clasp rests at the center, allowing a complimentary pendant or locket to be attached to the center if desired. At the back fo the necklace is a push clasp disguised within one of the links, and two gold safety latches provide extra security when worn. The underside of the clasp is hallmarked "15CT." A spectacular Victorian book chain, it has a rich and vibrant appearance that drapes beautifully at the neckline when worn. Despite its substantial appearance, the hollow link design makes it quite comfortable to wear. Whether paired with a hanging piece or worn alone, it makes a striking a statement, and is perfect for the serious collector!
Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 17.5" long from end to end. Each individual Etruscan link measures 3/8" wide, 1/2" tall, and 3/16" thick. The gold spring ring clasp at the center hangs 1/2" long. The total pennyweight of the piece is 43.2 dwt (67.2 grams).
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold links or applied Etruscan wirework motif. All of the links are intact and securely connected. The push clasp and safety latches fasten securely and are in good working condition. The hanging spring ring clasp at the center can be easily removed if desired, and is in proper working order.
